Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo Naveen Patnaik on Monday appointed top leaders to be in charge of campaigning for the upcoming bye-election to the Brajrajnagar Assembly constituency in Jharsuguda district scheduled to be held on May 31.
While four BJD leaders, Prasanna Acharya (former Rajya Sabha member), Debi Prasad Mishra (MLA), Niranjan Pujari (Minister) and Arun Kumar Sahoo (Minister), have been appointed to the party’s central committee, Minister and Health Minister Naba Kisore Das and party observer for the district and Cuttack Mayor Subash Singh and co-observer Bishnu Prasad Kedia have been given the overall constituency charge for the campaigning.
This apart, the party chief also assigned the poll charge to other leaders including Ministers Dibya Shankar Mishra, Pratap Jena, Sushanta Singh and Samir Ranjan Dash, Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak and Sanjay Dasburma for municipality and blocks in the assembly constituency.
The ruling party has fielded Alaka Mohanty, wife of late Kishore Kumar Mohanty, as its MLA candidate for the by-poll. The seat is lying vacant since December 30, 2021 following the death of incumbent MLA Kishore Mohanty, who passed away due to cardiac arrest.
