The Utkal Sammilani Central Committee and the State Government’s Language, Literature and Culture Department on Tuesday paid rich tributes to legendary Odia writer and former Utkal Sammilani president Vyasakabi Fakir Mohan Senapati on his 104th death anniversary.
Members of the organisation and eminent Odias garlanded the statue of Senapati at the entrance of Utkal University and recalled his contributions which enriched Odia language and literature.
They spoke on how Senapati’s reformist books and stories ‘Chha Mana Atha Guntha’, ‘Mamu’, ‘Lachhama’, ‘Dak Munshi’, ‘Rebati’ and ‘Patent Medicine’ have richly contributed in reforming the society. “Chha Mana Atha Guntha’ is no less a creation than Prem Chand’s ‘Godan’, said a writer.
Prominent among the participants were former Minister Prafulla Samal, Sammilani general secretary Dr Radhanath Praharaj, former Culture Department Secretary Manoranjan Panigrahi, singer Surendra Kumar Chhotray and Odia Language Department Deputy Secretary Laxmidhatr Behera.
