UD&HD Dept asks civic bodies to clean drains before monsoon

In a bid to provide a waterlogging free urban system for the people of the State, Urban Development and Housing Department (UD and HD) on Thursday instructed that before the monsoon, the small and big drains of all the municipal bodies of Jharkhand will be cleaned.

 

Regarding this, Secretary, UD and HD, Vinay Kumar Choubey has given strict instructions to all the Municipal Commissioners, Executive Officers in the review meeting organized through video conferencing. After reviewing the progress of the schemes related to sanitation in the meeting, the Chobey said that the problem of water logging in the cities would be reduced to a great extent due to the cleaning of drains before the onset of rains so complete it on time. He also said that if additional manpower and machines are required for this, then arrange for that too, but there will be no compromise on cleanliness.

 

The Secretary clearly instructed the officer during the meeting that before the rainy season, all small and big drains should be cleaned. “Start this work from May 21 and complete it by June 10. Issue all municipal body WhatsApp numbers among citizens. Water logging complaints will be received through WhatsApp. Work in coordination with citizens by forming a response team. Keep a standby team ready to resolve the complaint related to cleanliness in the municipal areas of the State,” he added.

 

Choubey also instructed for construction of a sanitary landfill and accelerated the construction of the plant. Instructions were also given for the purchase of necessary equipment for cleanliness and instructions were also issued for land marking and boundary wall for the plant. He also directed for evaluation of projects of solid waste management that could be worked effectively. He instructed the officials during the meeting that to expedite door to door garbage collection work and where there are no consultants, the selection of consultants should be done on time.

 

For Godda, Pakur, Khunti, Chirkunda the Secretary directed to complete the solid waste management plant construction work by August 15. Mihijam and Madhupur municipal bodies were directed to expedite the construction of the plant. Chaibasa, Chakradharpur, Seraikela, Chas and Jamtara were directed to remove the hurdles in land acquisition.

 

In the meeting, Director, State Urban Development Agency, Amit Kumar said that additional efforts are needed for statutory certificates like consent to establishment, consent to operate and environmental clearance to start solid waste management plants. He urged the municipal bodies to send proposals for removal of legacy waste, so that its approval and amount could be obtained from the Center.
