Students of the Ravenshaw University here on Thursday held a demonstration in protest against the Vice-Chancellor’s order to lock the main gate of the institution after 6 pm every day.
The VC ordered that the back gate of the university would remain open after 6 pm. But this did not pacify the students.
The students said they would continue their agitation till the decision to close the main gate after 6 pm is reversed.
They said the opening of the back gate after evening is a security hazard for them. “The back gate is near Chhatra Bazaar and there is a danger that antisocial elements will enter the varsity campus posing a threat to the lives of students,” said a student leader.
“As the main gate is closed in the evening, students depend on the back gate to go for their daily chores. It will be quite dangerous for them to pass through the busy traffic regularly,” he added.
“We will continue our strike for an indefinite period of time till our demand is met,” said another protestor.
