UP tops in water testing

Women in Uttar Pradesh have done it again as under the Har Ghar Jal scheme, Uttar Pradesh has got the first place in the investigation of water samples being done by women in rural areas.

According to a report of the Jal Shakti Ministry, UP has overtaken states like Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Jharkhand, Orissa and MP in testing of water samples. In 20,756 villages, women have completed the testing of 11,97,890 water samples across UP.

“In these tests 69,279 water samples have been found to be contaminated. Necessary action has been taken at 12,919 places,” Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh said here on Monday.

As per the report of the Jal Shakti Ministry, women have tested 11,60,940 water samples in 17,823 villages in Chhattisgarh and are in second place while Kerala is at number three, Odisha is at fourth and Madhya Pradesh at fifth place.

“The continuous monitoring of the state government and the action plan of Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply Department has given a new impetus to this campaign. UP, which was out of the top 10 till a few days ago, has registered its presence at the number one position in the country,” Singh said.

In order to ensure pure water reaches people, the state government has also started a campaign to train five women in every village across the state for water testing. “The intention of the government is to provide tap water to every household,” the minister said.

Singh congratulated the officers, employees and women checking water in the village for ensuring that pure drinking water reaches every house.
