The BJP on Wednesday alleged that Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain who is in jail since May this year is getting his salary and other allowances for the past six months. The BJP has demanded withdrawal of all facilities being given to Jain and also demanded return of all salary and allowances that he has taken after his arrest.
Addressing a press conference, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Delhi Assembly, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, urged the Lieutenant-Governor to withdraw all facilities being given to Jain and return of salary and allowances given from the time of arrest. Despite his arrest, Jain continues to be a Minister. “As per the rules, if a Government employee spends 48 hours in police custody, he is suspended from service. If he is sent to jail, then he is dismissed from the job, but Jain has remained the Minister for six months and is taking advantage of all the facilities along with his salary and other perks,” he said.According to Bidhuri, a Minister in the Delhi Cabinet gets Rs 20,000 monthly salary, Rs 18,000 monthly constituency allowance, Rs 4,000 monthly guest hospitality allowance, Rs 1,000 per day daily allowance, 3,000 unit per month free electricity, Rs 30,000 for data operator and the minimum salary of two orderlies which is about Rs 32,000.
“When he is not working as a Minister and does not have any portfolio, then why he should be paid a salary and allowances? Being in jail neither is he going to his constituency nor is there a question of his guests coming. Similarly, a daily allowance of Rs 1000 should also not be given to him. When he is in jail then what is the need for a data operator and two orderlies. In this way, the expenditure of a Minister is more than Rs 1.5 lakh rupees per month. Jain has been in jail for six months and he is also taking advantage of all these facilities including salary and allowances. If he is not working, then why he is being paid,” he said.
