Woman found murdered in Meerut

Thursday, 23 June 2022 | PNS | Lucknow

Mystery shrouds the death of a 35-year-old woman who was found murdered inside her house in Meerut.

The woman had bullet injury marks and the incident came to light when some neighbours heard the cries of the 7-year-old daughter of the victim.

According to police, when neighbors first entered the house, they saw the woman's body lying in a pool of blood and her daughter wrapped around her mother's body.

Superintendent of Police (City) Vineet Bhatnagar said that Saima (35), a resident of Shyamnagar in Lisadigate area, was shot in the head by an unidentified person. He further said that when there was no sound from the house, the neighbors went inside the house and saw that Saima had died. Also her seven-year-old daughter Layba was sleeping in her lap. Not only this, the woman’s body was covered with a sheet.

Saima was married in 2014 with Shahzad, a resident of Sadiq Nagar and they got divorced about two years ago. Since then Saima was living on rent in a two-storey house in Shyamnagar.

According to Bhatnagar, prima facie it appears that some acquaintance may have killed Saima. He said that two people residing in the house had been taken into custody and interrogated. He said that the police were taking further action in the matter and the body was sent for autopsy.

Meanwhile in Sonbhadra, a 35-year-old Army jawan was killed in celebratory firing during a wedding in the Brahmnagar area of the district.

Additional Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar said, "The jawan was on leave and got fatally injured in the firing at the function. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead."

"Yadav was currently posted in Jammu and had returned to his village on leave a couple of days ago," Kumar said.

The body was sent for post-mortem and investigations are underway to identify the accused.

Police are yet to identify the person who fired the shot. The cops are scanning the video footage of the function for any breakthrough.
