Woman killed due to superstitions in Garhwa

An elderly woman was brutally thrashed to death by members of a family caught in the web of superstition. It is alleged that the woman was put to death by being labelled a witch at village Khuri under Chiniya police station.

Police arrested two persons Lilamber Singh, 45 (exorcist) and Rajkumar Bhuiyan in the connection.

Gariba Bhuiyan, son of the deceased woman Sonia Kunwar, has revealed to the police that someone in a family of five brothers living in his village used to be sick. In order to get rid of the disease, these people went to an exorcist.  Then exorcist told them that you are worried because of Sonia Kunwar. She is s witch. She has done something in the house, because of this a brother's wife is not even having a child. The exorcist provoked the brothers a lot.

This exorcist is a resident of Beta village.  After this, the five brothers dragged the woman out of the house and started beating him mercilessly with sticks.  Meanwhile, whoever went to save Sonia was also beaten up. Sonia was beaten up till she died.

This frenzied incident took place in Khuri village of Chiniyan police station area of Garhwa district.  Two persons were arrested in the case and raids continue to arrest others, said police.
