With an aim to ensure protection of women and children, the Yogi Adityanath government plans to set up new women shelters and child protection homes across the state.
Women shelters with a capacity of 100 beds each will come up in Ghazipur, Moradabad and Ghaziabad at a cost of Rs 20.21 crore. Government children’s homes with a capacity of 50 beds each will be set up in Agra while state observation homes with a capacity of 100 beds each will be constructed in Rae Bareli, Kanpur, Mirzapur and Chitrakoot.
“On behalf of the department of Women and Child Development, a proposal was sent to the Uttar Pradesh government to build new children’s homes and shelters and it was given the nod by the government,” Deputy Director, Women and Child Development, Brijendra Singh Niranjan said.
“The problem of capacity will be solved by the construction of new children homes, women shelters and government observation homes in the state,” Niranjan said, adding: “It is our responsibility to provide shelters with better facilities to orphans and make them self-dependent.”
