Youth, bike found ablaze; murder suspected

Tuesday, 28 June 2022 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

A youth was burnt alive along with his motorcycle under mysterious circumstances on the Acharya Vihar flyover near the Maharaja Cinema Hall on NH-16 in the capital city late on Sunday night.

The deceased was identified as Chandan Pati of Jagatsinghpur district. He was presently residing in the Kesura area and doing a marketing job.

As per eyewitnesses, they saw the youth and his two-wheeler ablaze at around midnight. Though they tried to rescue him, the victim had already died with around 80 percent burn injuries.

On being informed, the Saheed Nagar police rushed to the spot, recovered the charred body for postmortem and initiated an investigation into the incident.

The cops ascertain the identity of the deceased on the basis of the registration number of the vehicle. They were also examining the footage of nearby CCTV cameras to find out the circumstances under which the incident took place.

It is being suspected that it was a pre-planned murder.

Another mishap occurred on the same flyover late at night but on the opposite side, three persons including a minor boy suffered injuries after a speeding Hyva truck hit the Tata ACE vehicle they were travelling in.

On being informed, Fire Service personnel and a team of the Saheed Nagar police reached the spot and rescued the injured persons. They were admitted to the Capital Hospital.
