SHEEZAN KHAN  | The actor, who is playing a protagonist in SONY SAB's   Alibaba: Dastaan-E-Kabul, made his television debut with Zee TV’s show Jodha Akbar and followed it up with Silsila Pyaar Ka, Prithvi Vallabh- Itihaas Bhi, Rahasya Bhi and Pavitraa Bharose Ka Safar. He speaks with SUPRIYA RAMESH about the show, his role, his experience learning horse riding and more

What is unique about the show Alibaba: Dastaan-e-Kabul?

We have all heard of Alibaba’s story at some point in our lives. However, we don't bring you the regular Alibaba Aur 40 Chor story of a cave replete with treasure. In fact, our story is packed with intense twists and dramatic events.

From larger-than-life locales that will leave you gobsmacked to a riveting narrative packed with mystique, the show promises viewers the opulence and grandeur that has never been witnessed before on Indian TV. Set against the backdrop of the enchanting city of Kabul, the show matches the splendour and glory of big-screen cinema.

What intrigued you towards the show? What was that one thing that pushed you to be a part of the show?

I am immensely delighted to be a part of this show. Actually, there’s not just one thing that pushed me to be a part of this amazing project. Alibaba: Dastaan-E-Kabul is certainly a grand show which will transport the viewers to a magical world. Along with an interesting storyline, the show offers an extra dose of entertainment with breathtaking visual effects and locations brimming with action, romance, and drama. I felt drawn to the character of Alibaba the moment I was narrated the story and I really feel blessed to portray the protagonist in the show.

How is your chemistry with your co-star Tunisha?

Tunisha and I share a wonderful bond, and our friendship has blossomed in the short time we've spent together. The strength of our on-screen chemistry is mirrored in real life  too—from helping each other out to building an unspoken understanding. We've seen it all! She's an incredibly talented and hardworking co-actor. In fact, I was in awe of her work based on the mock shoot itself. I’m glad that she essays the role of Mariam, for she's the perfect fit.

How was the experience of shooting in Ladakh?

It was surreal! Viewers will catch a glimpse of the breathtaking mountains and chilly deserts. Almost all of us faced minor health issues due to the extreme weather conditions at higher altitudes, but our unflinching team spirit, motivation, and genuine care towards one another kept us going. Having seen the output, we are certain that it was all worth it.

You have added ‘Baba’ to your Instagram handle. That is one interesting thing that we have noticed. Can you tell us more about it?

The show will unfold the story behind why Alibaba is called Alibaba in the first place. He is the custodian of five kids, who mean the world to him. I am quite sentimental about the relationship they share, and especially the name ‘Baba’ always gets me. Since I want to imbibe every aspect and emotion of this character as part of my identity, I found it befitting to add Baba to my Instagram handle.

Viewers have seen you riding horse in the promo, how was that experience?

I can safely say that horse riding is now a piece of cake for me. It was challenging in the beginning but as they say, ‘Practise makes a man perfect'. So yes, relentless practise is the key to my now effortless horse riding skills and viewers get to witness this in the show. Learning it and performing the same in a larger-than-life show like Alibaba: Dastaan-E-Kabul is a lifetime experience for me.
