Northern Railway to set up Gati Shakti unit in Delhi division

Friday, 27 May 2022 | PNS

In order to fast track the construction work required by divisions for removing infrastructure bottlenecks and improving mobility of passenger and freight trains, Northern Railway is setting up Gati Shakti Units in selected divisions at present. First of this unit in the Northern Railway is to be set up in the Delhi Division.

With the opening of the dedicated GS unit at Delhi Division, the Hon’ble PM’s National Master Plan for multimodal Connectivity, Gati Shakti, will get impetus.

A meeting was held by Ashutosh Gangal, General Manager, Northern Railway at New Delhi on May 20. The principal heads of the department involved with the Gati Shakti Plan and the Divisional Railway Manager of Delhi division were present in the meeting.

The technical, administrative and financial modalities for setting up the unit along with organisational set-up were discussed in detail. Railways will also seek opinions from industry and established experts for design checking, testing of material, site tests and for conducting surveys.

The Gati Shakti Unit has a committee of personnel from the Engineering, Signal & Telecommunication and Finance departments. The unit will be headed by DRM Delhi. With the coming together of all the involved departments, the processes of requisite infrastructure creation will be expedited.

Speed of passenger trains is being improved in sections over the Northern Railway. Recently, trains have been speeded up to 130 Km/hr in New Delhi–Ludhiana and New Delhi–Palwal sections.

Infrastructure upgrade for providing better services to the rail users has been the focus of NR.

Several new line projects are on-going which will provide rail connectivity to hinterlands. ROBs and RUBs are being constructed instead of LC gates to facilitate rail/road traffic.

33 pairs of trains have been given a traction change from diesel to electric in the last financial year as this will significantly improve mobility of the trains.

Yards over the zone are being improved and re-modelled for better maintenance and operations of trains.
