Department of Paediatrics AIIMS Bhopal in association with the Department of Pediatric Surgery, Radiotherapy, National Society for Childhood Cancer, Cankids-KidsCan, IAP-PHO chapter, Madhya Pradesh- Indian Academy of Paediatrics and Bhopal Academy of Paediatrics organised a workshop on “National Training Program – Practical Paediatric Oncology” at Academic Block, Department of Paediatrics, First Floor, Near Cancer Treatment Centre, AIIMS Bhopal.
This is the first of its kind in the state of Madhya Pradesh. This provides a structured teaching module by qualified and practising pediatric oncology. Director AIIMS Bhopal Prof (Dr) Ajai Singh while congratulating the department of paediatrics and other collaborators for conducting the workshop advised the organisers to continue such activities of knowledge sharing, as the ultimate beneficiary is the patient.
Paediatric Haematologist Oncologist and Additional Professor Dr Narendra Chaudhary said that September is childhood cancer awareness month, and the workshop was intended to sensitize healthcare professionals, mainly doctors working in Pediatrics, with the aim to update knowledge in different aspects of Childhood Cancer.
More than 650 children were registered in the department for suspected cancer, about 100 completed treatments successfully, and 150 are on treatment. Central Observer Prof. (Dr) Rachna Seth stressed on shared care of children with cancer with paediatricians to decrease the rate of refusal and abandonment of treatment. Experience of Pediatric Hematologist Oncologist Dr Gaurav Tripathi from Rewa, Dr Shweta Pathak from Jabalpur, Dr Swati Patel, and Dr Shivani Patel from Indore shared their experience with basic difficulties in the diagnosis and treatment of these children.
Sixty-two Doctors and healthcare Professionals from 16 prestigious institutions from Madhya Pradesh participated in the workshop. A book on Pediatric Oncology was distributed to delegates for their future reference. Cancer children who won prizes in competitions during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month were facilitated. The program was started by the inauguration of children with cancer and ended with the NTPPPO Quiz on Kahoot platform. Quiz winner were Dr. Mrinal Patnaik, Dr. Swartika Nayak, and Dr. Akshya Kamle.
