Ayodhya riding to progress on Har Ghar Jal initiative

Thursday, 16 November 2023 | PNS | Lucknow

In a significant stride towards inclusive development, the Har Ghar Jal initiative led by the Namami Gange and the Rural Water Supply departments is seamlessly integrating Ayodhya into the broader spectrum of progress.

“The Jal Jeevan Mission is fostering employment opportunities, particularly for women and youth, in the revered city of Lord Ram,” Principal Secretary (Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply) Anurag Srivastava said.

He said under the visionary leadership of the Yogi Adityanath government, Ayodhya was witnessing concerted efforts to provide tap water connectivity to its residents, with a parallel focus on empowering local youth and women towards self-reliance.

“The initiative involves imparting training to rural individuals in various trades such as plumbing, electrical works, fitting, motor mechanics, masonry and pump operation,” he said.

At least 10,322 individuals have received training so far, encompassing diverse skill sets — 1,522 as pump operators, 1,588 as plumbers, 1,587 as motor mechanics, 1,588 as fitters, 1,588 as electricians and 2,381 as masons. These trained individuals are poised to contribute to the development of their respective villages while securing their livelihoods.

A notable aspect of this initiative is the active involvement of women in Ayodhya. Women in rural areas have been provided training to serve as pump operators, taking charge of critical aspects such as water supply, voltage monitoring, ampere meter reading, light management, and water pump maintenance.

As per directive, two individuals from each gram panchayat are being equipped with the skills required to serve as pump operators. The department is ensuring the seamless execution of this initiative by providing a specialised pump operator toolkit free of cost to the trainees. The toolkit comprises essential tools such as a 300 mm pipe, 130 mm wire cutter, 200 mm plier, 100 mm screwdriver, tester and a wrench set.

“This holistic approach not only addresses the water connectivity needs of Ayodhya but also fosters skill development and gender inclusivity, ensuring that the benefits of progress are distributed equitably among the diverse population of Lord Ram’s city,” the official said.
