Bastar girls excel at nat’l martial arts competition

Girls from Bastar district in Chhattisgarh secured five gold medals and one bronze medal at the 6th National Mixed Martial Arts Competition in Lucknow from May 17 to 21.

The girls had learnt their skills at the Bastar Martial Arts Academy, Jagdalpur.

International player Palak Nag won the gold in the senior welterweight category. Other outstanding performances included Mahi Dongre (gold, youth C 57kg), Yejin Shreya Suna (gold, youth C 44kg), Tanupriya Datta (gold, youth B 44kg), Shriya Sharma (gold, semi-contact bottom weight) and Mahi Meshram (bronze, youth A 52kg) category.

Jagdalpur gave a warm welcome to the players on their return on Wednesday.

This is the second consecutive year when girls from Bastar have displayed their talent in the competition.

The players who have won the gold will represent India in the upcoming international competition.
