Demanding the resignations of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Education Minister Atishi for their false claims, Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, on Sunday claimed that the number of students in the Government schools has decreased this year. Bidhuri said there has been a reduction of more than 30,000 students this year .
The Leader of Opposition said that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Education Minister Atishi are continuously claiming that there has been an increase in the number of students in government schools, misleading the public.
Bidhuri stated that while the Chief Minister and Education Minister boast about their education model being world-class, they are claiming that children are leaving public schools and enrolling in government schools.
“They assert that four lakh students have enrolled in government schools, whereas the truth is that in the academic year 2022-23, the total number of students in government schools was 17,89,385, which has decreased to 17,58,986 in the year 2023-24, a reduction of 30,399 compared to the previous academic session,”said Bidhuri citing RTI reply from the education department.

Similarly, in the government schools of North-East Delhi, the number of students was 2,86,298 in the year 2023-24, whereas it was more than three lakhs in 2022-23. Except for North West A and Central Delhi, there has been a decline in the number of students in government schools across all districts and regions. In the government schools located in North West A, the number of students in the year 2023-24 is 1,87,596, while it was 1,81,450 in 2022-23. In Central Delhi’s government schools, the number of students was 27,580 in 2022-23, which has increased to 28,922 in 2023-24.
He further stated that there is also a decrease in the number of students in the 12th grade in all subjects. In the Science subject, the number of students was 21,285 in 2022-23, which increased to 21,465 in 2023-24.
