The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday raised concern over farmers throwing their produce – tomato – on the roads in Durg in Chhattisgarh.
The farmers dumped the produce due to lack of adequate price for tomatoes. They said the lone factory of food processing (tomato) was purchasing only a truckload of the produce.
BJP spokesperson Devlal Thakur said it was unfortunate that the farmers were throwing tomatoes.
He said the government had planned to set up food processing plants in each block. This had not been done. So, the farmers were unable to recover their input cost.
