Punjab Police conducts cordon and search operations in all districts

Chandigarh: The Punjab Police on Thursday carried out a cordon and search operation at around 110 places linked with “anti-national” and “anti-social” elements.  The simultaneous raids were conducted in all districts across the state on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav.  Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) (law and order) Arpit Shukla said the commissioners of police and senior superintendents of police were directed to personally monitor these raids and ensure that they are carried out simultaneously.  The raids were planned after the questioning of gangsters and criminals arrested recently, he said.  Around 110 police teams involving more than 1,000 personnel were deployed to conduct the raids at suspected places of “anti-national” and “anti-social” elements.             In a statement, Shukla said police teams conducted thorough searches at the houses and other premises, and also collected data from mobile phones and other electronic devices, which will be sent for forensic examinations. He said several people have been detained for further verification and incriminating material seized from their possession, which is being further examined.

 

Haryana's Anupama Upadhyaya becomes Badminton national champion

Chandigarh: Anupama Upadhyaya from Haryana has become the national champion in the 2023 Badminton Championship and with this for the first time, the daughter of the state has become the national championship winner in the women's singles in the senior category.  She won the women's singles title by defeating Aakarshi Kashyap in the final match of the Senior National Badminton Championship 2023 held in Pune recently.  Haryana Badminton Association, president Devender Singh announced a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh to her. He said that even before this the performance of Anupama Upadhyaya has been excellent and she secured the first rank on the basis of her performance in the junior category. Currently, she ranks third in World ranking in this category. 

 

Himachal CM gets patients airlifted on state chopper from distant areas

Shimla: Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu got airlifted two patients --Prem Lal (58) and Ajeet Kumar (40) along with their attendants from Dodra Kwar, the far-flung region of district Shimla by State government's Helicopter.  Immediately after receiving the information, the Chief Minister directed the district administration to get them airlifted and provide them immediate medical assistance. It was also ensured to station an ambulance and medical attendants at Annandale helipad to provide them the medical care. Both patients were shifted to IGMC for treatment and were recuperating. Earlier also, Sukhu had sent the helicopter to airlift the patients from the tribal belts of Killar in Chamba district and from Lahaul-Spiti.

 

Pb VB registers bribery case against SHO, his gunman

Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Thursday registered a corruption case against Inspector Naveen Kumar, posted as SHO Ferozepur Cantonment and his gunman Jatinder Gill, a Punjab Home Guard (PHG) volunteer, for demanding a bribe of Rs 15,000. Kumar has been arrested. A spokesperson of the VB said the above said the Inspector was arrested on the complaint of Lalit Kumar Passi, resident of Ferozepur Cantonment. The complainant approached the VB and alleged that the SHO demanded Rs 20,000 as a bribe to help him in a police case registered by him against the other party. The complainant recorded the conversation while the accused was demanding the bribe and submitted it to the VB as evidence to book the accused. VB team laid a trap and arrested the accused SHO for receiving a bribe of Rs 15,000 through his gunman in the presence of two official witnesses.

 

Show cause notice to 12 Punjab officials for arriving late for meeting

Chandigarh: Cracking the whip against latecomers, Punjab Housing & Urban Development (H&UD) department has issued show cause notice to its 12 erring officials for arriving late at a departmental meeting. They were asked to submit their replies within three days. Those who were issued show cause notices include District Town Planners (DTPs) Suman Gupta, Ritika Arora and Harpreet Singh, Assistant Town Planners (ATPs) Gagan Chopra, Amarinderjit Singh, Planning Officers Paramjit Singh, Bhupinder Kaur, ADO Kuldeep Singh, Private Secretary Satish Kumar, Senior Assistant Vandna Sharma, Clerk Kavi Prakash Amoli, Steno Gurpreet Kaur.  Aman Arora, Minister of Housing & Urban Development had called a meeting to discuss and resolve the issues pertaining to NOCs at his office at Punjab Civil Secretariat on Tuesday. However, showing a lackadaisical attitude, these employees couldn't reach to attend the meeting on time. Taking strict note of the dereliction in duty by these officials, the Cabinet Minister has directed Chief Administrative PUDA to issue them show cause notice while asking them to submit their reply within three days, failing which a strict action would be initiated against them, as per the law.
