MCC celebrates International Women’s Day, Holi
Chandigarh: In an unique initiative, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh on Sunday celebrated Holi and International Women’s Day at Mahila Bhavan, with its female employees. Door-to-Door Garbage Collectors, B&R wing workers, Safai Mitras and Toilet Cleaners were made guests of honor for the event. They shared their stories of courage and struggle from the stage. Women from several walks of life like school principals, NGOs, and SHGs also participated in the event. Several women workers were felicitated for their good work and dedication to the Swacch Bharat Mission by Mayor Anup Gupta.
Purewal Sports Festival: Sports writer honoured with Khel Ratna Award
Hakimpur (SBS Nagar): On the second day of the 26th Purewal Games of Hakimpur — known as the ‘Olympics of Doaba’, eminent sports writer Principal Sarawan Singh was honoured with ‘Khel Ratna Award on Sunday for lifelong services to education, literature, health and sports. He received a plaque, gold medal, turban, blanket, and prize money of Rs five lakhs. Out of his 50 books, 25 have been written about sports and sportsmen. Besides, athletes Akshdeep Singh — who qualified for Paris Olympics by setting new national record in 20-km walk in National Walking Championship; and Manju Rani — who qualified for Asian Games by setting new national record in 35-km walk in National Walking Championship, were also honoured.
War Memorial Asafwala to get facelift: Arora
Fazilka: Punjab Cabinet Minister Aman Arora on Sunday said that the Government would give a facelift to the war memorial built near the Indo-Pak border in Fazilka district. Arora, during his maiden visit to Fazilka district, paid obeisance to the Martyrs of 1971 Indo-Pak war at Asafwala village. “Punjab government would upgrade the monument built in the memory of the Martyrs at a cost of Rs 15 lakh besides a dedicated corridor from the National Highway to the Martyrs' Samadhi,” he said, adding that solar powered lights and a pump would also be installed at the memorial.
Fisheries dept’s poster, prepared by Chd fine arts student, released
Chandigarh: To promote shrimp farming in the state and sensitize farmers about agro-auxiliary occupation aquaculture, Punjab Fisheries Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar on Sunday released the Department’s poster, prepared by the student of Fine Art College, Chandigarh. To prepare the poster, the Department has organized special competition for the students of Government Fine Art College, Sector-10, Chandigarh, in which Parneet Kaur’s poster was selected and received Rs 10,000 prize money by the Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar.
Dr Balbir calls on Union Minister Dr Mandaviya
Patiala: Punjab Health and Family Welfare, Medical Education and Research Minister Dr Balbir Singh on Sunday called upon the Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya who reached Patiala and emphatically took up issues related to the state’s health sector. Handing over a demand charter to the Union Minister on Punjab’s important healthcare demands, Dr Balbir apprised him about revolutionary steps being undertaken by the State Government to modernize the health services in the State.
