Punjab presented gender equality budget for the first time: Minister

Chandigarh: Punjab Government has presented a gender budget for the first time to eliminate gender-based inequality and equal distribution of resources in the state, said the state Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr Baljit Kaur on Friday adding that the Social Security Department has been designated as the nodal department to ensure implementation of gender and integration equality in various development processes and schemes of the state. Committed to empower women and girls, the Government will draw up new programs and schemes under gender budget to achieve this objective.

 

Punjab releases Rs 40 cr for school’s upkeep, maintenance

Chandigarh: Punjab Government has released Rs 40 crore for upkeep and maintenance of school buildings as a part of efforts being made to revolutionize the entire education system. The state Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Friday said that the strenuous efforts are being made to ramp up infrastructure of government schools. “The money was being demanded for construction of floors and roofs besides electricity, furniture repair, and paint of many school buildings,” he added.

 

Minister bats for involving common people in preserving environment

Chandigarh: Punjab Forests and Wildlife Preservation Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak on Friday stated that the common people should be made part of the movement aimed at conserving the environment. The Minister, reviewing the Department’s functioning, stressed that proper care should be taken of the 54 lakh saplings planted throughout Punjab and the common people should be made part of the movement. He said that the Department should implement the initiative of providing uniforms to its employees and explore the possibility of starting toy train for children at the Chhatbir Zoo.

 

Film-screenings, art work display to mark Francophonie Week

Chandigarh: The Alliance Française, Sector 36, jointly with the Canadian Consulate, on Friday announced the holding of 2023 edition of the ‘Week of the Francophonie’ from March 18 to 25. The “Francophonie Week” is the festival of the French language and cultures of the French-speaking countries, which is celebrated in the middle of March across the world. The week-long activities would include a petanque match on March 18 at Alliance Française parking, followed by an artistic activity and screening of short films. The most-awaited activity would be on March 25 when food stalls from seven French-speaking countries will be set up at the Centre.

 

Webpage of PU PR Dept launched

Chandigarh: Panjab University vice-chancellor Prof Renu Vig on Friday launched the webpage of Department of Public Relations in the presence of Prof Harsh Nayyar, Director, Research Development Cell, Prof Promila Pathak, Dean Student Welfare (Women), Prof Krishan Kumar, Secretary to Vice Chancellor and Dr Namita Gupta, Director, Public Relations. Prof Renu Vig said that this was a need of the hour as this is an era of digitization and taking this move at this stage is itself a big achievement of the department.
