Chhattisgarh is going forward towards providing nutritional security to everyone.
To meet the target, the government is going to start distributing free fortified rice under the Public Distribution System (PDS) from April.
An official communiqué said that so far 2.65 lakh children out of 4.34 lakh have been cured of anemia in the last four years. Similarly, 1.50 lakh women have also benefitted.
The Suposhan Abhiyan commenced on October 2, 2019. Under the campaign, hot cooked nutritious food was provided to malnourished children aged up to six years and anemic women in the age group of 15 to 49 years.
The government has also paid attention to various aspects of nourishment ranging from pregnancy to safe delivery and to the healthy development of mothers and babies.
As a result, the mother mortality rate in the state has fallen from 159 to 137.
Under a Kaushalya Matritva Sahayata Yojana, Rs 5,000 is provided to pregnant women. This plays a key role in ensuring nutritional security to the expectant mother and her child, the communiqué said.
Now, the government has taken major steps to ensure nutritional security of women and children.
“Taking the characteristics and preferences of the local food and drink into consideration, the government is distributing fortified rice containing iron folic acid to ensure nutritional security in 12 districts," it said.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has announced distribution of fortified rice to PDS ration card holders from April 2023.
