CM inaugurates State’s biggest sewage treatment plant in Haldwani

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday inaugurated Uttarakhand’s biggest 28 MLD sewage treatment plant along with legacy waste treatment plant in Haldwani constructed at a cost of Rs 35.58 crore and Rs three crore respectively. Both plants have been constructed at Gaulapar in Haldwani to improve the sanitation condition in Haldwani and nearby cities. Dhami said on the occasion that the construction of these plants under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme is a big step taken by the government towards cleanliness. He said that the operation of the STP in Haldwani will save the Gaula river from pollution and farmers will be able to use the organic manure from the plant. He also informed that the government has installed sewage plants in 132 drains polluting the Ganga River as well as its tributaries.  At present, construction work of 11 sewerage plants is in progress. The CM also made several other announcements on the occasion.  He announced to provide funds as per the requirement for the construction of an international zoo in Haldwani for wildlife and tourism. He also announced plans to open a de-addiction centre in Haldwani to make Uttarakhand drug-free. Dhami further announced funds for electricity poles, new lines and transformers in Lalkuan Assembly constituency and asked the officials concerned to prepare a detailed project report for drinking water and electricity too to get funds for the project. He also announced allotment of funds for the restoration of funds allocated for the renovation of the damaged Gaulapar canal. The Haldwani mayor Jogendra Singh Rautela also said that sanitation conditions will improve with the operation of sewage and legacy waste treatment plants. He said that operation of a compost plant will also be started within four months in Haldwani.
