Congress holds protest inside & outside Assembly

Tuesday, 14 March 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Uttarakhand Congress held a large protest in Gairsain on Monday. The demonstration was staged on the first day of the budget session of the Uttarakhand Assembly to protest on various issues including the use of force on the unemployed protesting in Dehradun, demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in the paper leak cases and the Ankita Bhandari murder case. In the Assembly building the Congress MLAs held a protest at the entrance.

The party had planned to hold a protest march towards the Assembly building under the leadership of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara. Anticipating the protest the administration issued prohibitory orders under section 144 in an area of four kilometres of the Assembly building.

The chief spokesperson of the Uttarakhand Congress Garima Dasauni said that the party workers and leaders coming from Garhwal and Kumaon were prevented by the administration from reaching Junglechatti where the protest was to be staged. She claimed that many Congress leaders and workers were injured and misbehaviour with women occurred as the police tried to forcibly stop the party workers from proceeding towards Bharadisain.

Addressing the party workers, the PCC president Karan Mahara said that the law and order situation in the State is pathetic and things are becoming worse from bad.  He said that the women are finding themselves insecure and the youth are not finding any ray of hope in the State. Former chief minister Harish Rawat said that the State government is shying away from the CBI probe.

He said that the PCC president Karan Mahara, the leader of opposition (LoP) Yashpal Arya, former PCC president, former LoP and other leaders deserve praise for raising the issues of public interest forcibly both inside and outside the Assembly.

Rawat said that the sugarcane farmers are in a pathetic condition and the government should come out of its air conditioned rooms and ensure that their pending payments are released. He said that the youth have lost faith in the Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UKSSSC) and the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC). Rawat said that the anger of the people of the State is increasing as the VIP involved in the Ankita Bhandari murder case is yet to be exposed.

Former PCC president Ganesh Godiyal attacked the State government for its failure on the law and order front. Former speaker of Assembly Govind Singh Kunjwal, former Rajya Sabha MP Pradeep Tamta, vice president (Organisation) Mathura Dutt Joshi, former cabinet ministers, MLAs and others took part in the protest.
