Demand mounts for varsity tag to 139-yr-old SKCG College

Tuesday, 07 February 2023 | TARINI PRASAD PANDA | PARALAKHEMUNDI

One of the oldest colleges in the State, the SKCG College, Paralakhemundi, has been utterly neglected. Biju Patnaik had got scholarship for pilot training from the college founder late Maharaja Sri Krushna Chandra Gajapati.  His father was a Deewan of the Maharaja too.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has been ruling over Odisha for last two decades. He has won the faith of the people by undertaking many development works. However, when recently VD College, Jeypore, was declared as a university, the neglect of the SKCG College Paralakhemundi has not gone down well with the people. There has been a growing demand to provide university status to the SKCG as well.

President awardee teacher Binod Chandra Jena said, " The State Government should not ignore the demand of according university status to SKCG College which was set up by Maharaja KC Gajapati. His contribution for new Odisha is invaluable and this college revives the memories associated with the late Maharaja."

The old students of the 139 years old college too urged CM Patnaik to provide university status to the SKCG.
