Democracy under threat under Modi Govt: CPM

Tuesday, 30 May 2023 | PNS | ROURKELA

Senior communist leader and State Secretariat Member of CPI(M) Janardan Pati briefing media here said the democratic structure of the country is under threat now.

The decisions taken by the BJP led NDA Government are in contradiction to the sanctity of the Constitution, he told.

Citing the Article-79 of the constitution, Pati said the Parliament is constituted with three pillars i.e. President, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. But unfortunately, the newly built Parliament House is inaugurated by the Prime Minister instead of the President of India. It is an insult to democracy and to the President of India. This unconstitutional and autocratic behaviour of the Central Government is not acceptable, he said further.

Pati again said the decision of withdrawing Rs 2, 000 currency notes is an attack on the economy of the country. For what this decision is taken should be clarified before the public by the Union Government, he demanded.

Putting the BJP in dock, Pati said while BJP is in power in Manipur the State is burning and many people are dying. The BJP has succeeded to create rift among the innocent tribal people of the State, charged Pati.

Since last five months the women wrestlers are agitating against the sexual harassment by a BJP MP. Despite the intervention of the Supreme Court of India, BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh who is the principal accused in the case is not yet arrested by the police. This is a clear-cut message of dishonoring the law of the land by the Modi Government, he alleged.
