Chhattisgarh Tribal and Scheduled Caste Development Minister Dr. Premsai Singh Tekam said the oral tradition of tribal communities in the state needs to be recorded for its preservation. It can then be passed on to the next generation.
He was addressing the inaugural session of the three-day ‘Janjyatiya Vachikotsav 2023’ at the Tribal Research and Training Institute on Thursday, an official statement said.
A total of 240 tribal reciters are participating in nine genres in the event.
Based on regions, different dialects are spoken, the Minister said. Their beliefs, stories, myths, proverbs and folk songs have come from their ancestors.
He said the oral form of transmission has been ingrained in the day-to-day lifestyle of the tribal community. The workshop will help to preserve and promote tribal culture and their oral tradition.
