Election promises made by Cong to be fulfilled in 4 years: HP CM

Himachal chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday said the Congress government in the state will fulfil all its election promises within four years in a phased manner and bring the economy back on track.


Replying to a question in the Assembly by BJP’s Vinod Kumar and Prakash Rana regarding the ruling party’s promise to give 300 units of free electricity, Sukhu said the “guarantees” were given after deep thought and all of them would be implemented in four years.

He said the facility of 125 units of free electricity given by the previous BJP government is continuing and Rs 1,044 crore has been spent on the scheme till date, of which Rs 300 crore has been given by the Congress government in the past 100 days.

Sukhu said the provision of providing 60 units of free electricity was made by the Virbhadra Singh government which was increased to 125 units by the previous Jai Ram Thakur government and challenged the opposition to bring a privilege motion if he was wrong.

Intervening in the reply, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur said people were eagerly waiting for 300 units of free electricity.

Replying to another question by the Congress’ Sudhir Sharma and Chetanya Sharma and the BJP’s Vipin Singh Parmar and Pawan Kajal, the chief minister said the expansion of the Kangra (Gaggal) airport would cost Rs 10,000 crore and Rs 2,000 crore would be spent on land acquisition. Expansion of the Kangra airport is important for national security and tourism point of view, and work on a techno-feasibility report is on, he said.

Sukhu said his government has got its social impact assessment report done and a public hearing on it would be held on April 10 and 11. A policy will be brought for rehabilitation of affected people, he added.

Replying to a question by the BJP’s Reena Kashyap, Education Minister Rohit Thakur said out of 49 sanctioned posts of principals in government senior secondary schools in the Pachhad constituency, 15 are lying vacant and the government will try to fill all the posts in the next 15 days.

Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh informed Inder Singh Gandhi of the BJP that the construction of the Dadore flyover in Balh assembly constituency would be done by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and the case has been sent to it.
