Gang involved in solemnizing fake marriages busted in Haryana

With the arrest of two accused, Haryana State Crime Branch on Sunday busted a gang involved in solemnizing fake marriages besides getting minor girls married by threatening them.

The husband and wife involved in this fake marriage scam have been arrested. The accused identified as Reena and her husband Vicky used to get a fake marriage done owing to greed for money,” said a police official.

At the same time, the search is on for two people, including a woman, involved in the crime. The accused sent to jail are residents of Ludhiana in Punjab and were currently living as tenants in Delhi.

Giving a complaint in February 2021, a woman resident of Jind told that her daughter-in-law Sapna had left home without any information. Even after best efforts, the case was declared untraceable when the missing girl was not found anywhere.

Sensing the seriousness of the case, the State Crime Branch chief OP Singh entrusted the inquiry to the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) Jind. According to the complaint, the missing Sapna was married to Monu, a resident of Jind. Taking action, Sapna was rescued in April 2022 from Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh. During interrogation, Sapna informed that her real name is Swarnalata and she had gone of her own will. This marriage has been forced on her and she wants to return to her family.

During interrogation, Sapna alias Swarnalata told that she was married to Rinanath in 2002. Her husband drives an auto in Mumbai since 2005. He has a son and a daughter. She said that she had come to Delhi and came in contact with a lady named Reena who told him that they get the marriage done for 10-15 days.
