Haryana unit of the Congress party on Monday staged a protest in Chandigarh demanding a probe into the Hindenburg Report. Hundreds of Congress workers marched towards the Raj Bhavan under the leadership of Subhash Chopra, who has been appointed Haryana's convenor for the 'Hath Se Hath Jodo' campaign, Haryana Congress President Chaudhary Udaibhan and Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Hooda.
All the senior leaders and MLAs of the party were present on the occasion. The police tried to stop the march by putting up barricades along the route of the protest march but the Congress leaders continued to march on.
About 150 leaders, including three working presidents of the party, around two dozen MLAs, former MLAs, former MPs courted arrest. The party leaders handed over a memorandum to the governor's representative demanding a JPC inquiry into the Hindenburg report.
State Congress president Chaudhary Udaibhan said that due to the scam of Adani Group, LIC and SBI had to bear the loss of thousands of crores. “The hard-earned money of about 10 lakh investors also was lost. That's why an impartial investigation of the Hindenburg Report is necessary. But instead of conducting an inquiry, the government has resorted to dictatorship to suppress the voice of the opposition. Efforts are being made to suppress the leaders of the opposition by using police force and misusing the investigative agencies,” he said.
