A labourer working on the dismantling of Mount View and Malari Inn hotels in land subsidence affected Joshimath was injured after falling about 20 feet while working on Monday. The injured Nepali labourer was taken to the hospital by personnel of the State Disaster Response Force and National Disaster Response Force. While the manual dismantling was stopped after the incident, the injured worker was sent home after primary treatment in the community health centre in Joshimath.

According to an eye witness Bheem Bahadur, labourers were working on dismantling the two hotels deemed unsafe after developing cracks with one of them also tilting, when Mann Bahadur (39) fell down from the roof of one of the buildings. According to sources, the labourer does not seem to have sustained serious injuries despite falling about 20 feet and was sent home after primary treatment in the community health centre. This is the first accident on site since the dismantaling of the two hotels began on January 12. After the incident which took place at about 2:30 PM, the manual work on site was stopped. The work of clearing the debris using machinery was undertaken later in the day as usual. The work of dismantling the hotels is slated to resume on Tuesday with a new plan, according to sources.

Meanwhile, the number of cracked buildings has remained stable at 863 since January 20 and the discharge of underground water has also decreased substantially. However, some natural sources of water in the town have dried up.
