Monday, 29 May 2023 | PNS | Ranchi

The Young Changemakers Programme (YCP) - Rural Immersion Bootcamp, a pioneering initiative conducted by the Indian Institute of Management Ranchi, concluded the 3-day event with a valedictory ceremony. Participants of the ‘Young Changemakers Programme’ visited Rasabeda village to pave the way for a new generation of socially conscious leaders and future leaders passionate about social work and driven to create a sustainable and long-lasting impact.

The valedictory ceremony of the First ‘Young Changemakers Programme’ was conducted on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at Swami Vivekananda Auditorium, IIM Ranchi, Pundag Campus. Prof. Deepak Kumar Srivastava, Director, IIM Ranchi, participants, their parents, faculty, and organising members attended the ceremony. Mr Ladi Balakrishna, GM and H.O.D (Sustainable Development & CSR), Central Coalfields Limited, was the Chief Guest of the ceremony.

The event began with welcoming the chief guest with a memento, Saraswati Vandana and followed by the national song. The attendees were then shown a beautifully made video describing YCP and a video showcasing the developments during the three days.

Prof. Deepak Kumar Srivastava, Director, IIM Ranchi, and Mr Ladi Balakrishna conferred the performers of the event, Team Bagwati, consisting of members Niral Uprit, Risav Ganguly, Mahi Mathur, Himani Shah, and Tanish Rajgarhia the ‘Programme Laureate Certificate’ for their exceptional performance and innovative solutions to solve the problems faced by the people of Rasabeda.

Prof. Deepak Kumar Srivastava talked about Human Connect, an initiative launched by IIM Ranchi to boost the feelings of camaraderie and kinship among the people of the college. The Young Changemakers Programme came out of the same spirit to increase rural immersion and sensitise the next generation of leaders to the problems the economically underprivileged face. He further mentioned that the YCP is one of the flagship initiatives of the institute and is one of the several initiatives that IIM Ranchi will launch for social welfare.

The chief guest, Mr Ladi Balakrishna, then gave a speech about social welfare, becoming a government and the positive impact this change has brought to the country. He also shed light on the CSR activities of CCL, such as the Jharkhand State Sports Promotion Society and the upliftment and coach of Jharkhand's budding sportsmen and sportswomen. CCL Lal Ladli, another initiative by the CSR wing of CCL, coaches economically underprivileged children and prepares them for highly competitive entrance exams. Lal Ladli has seen tremendous success. He admired the efforts put in by IIM Ranchi with the Young Changemakers Programme for the noble cause it represents.

The programme laureates also talked about the benefits they have received as a result of the programme and shared that the initiative had them realise the depth of the problems faced by the country.

“YCP was not just for the certificate but really about the opportunity of creating a social impact. I am taking back so many values, not only from the villagers but also from the Director, IIM Ranchi, the Chief Guest of the Valedictory ceremony and the mentors. I feel like a dream”- Niral Uprit, New Digamber Public School, Indore.

“We are not winners, and others are not losers. We are learners and leaders of tomorrow who will shape the future. YCP was indeed a programme that helped us understand that self-change is directly related to the change around us. We promise that Rasabeda would be a place that will give rise to the next generation leaders.”- Risav Ganguly, Loyola School, Jamshedpur.

A vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Angshuman Hazarika, who talked about a singular idea that has grown into a large initiative. A singing of the national anthem brought the event to a close
