Illegal Mining: 4 poclain machines, 5 tippers seized in Ropar

Chandigarh: Taking strict action against illegal mining, Punjab Mining Department carried out a major operation on Saturday night by raiding various places in Rupnagar district, seizing four Poclain machines and five tippers from Sava river. The state Mining Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer on Sunday said that on the basis of confidential information, the Mining and the Police Department jointly acted and raided the villages adjacent to Sava River at Sri Anandpur Sahib.

Haryana STF nabs two, carrying Rs 65k reward

Chandigarh: Continuing with its crackdown on criminals, Haryana’s Special Task Force (STF), in separate incidents, have arrested two criminals, carrying a collective reward of Rs 65,000 on their arrest. Those arrested include one carrying Rs 40,000 bounty and another with a reward of Rs 25,000. Spokesperson said that in a first operation, a team of STF-Gurugram had arrested Mahesh alias Dholu who was facing a dozen heinous criminal cases under various sections in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. UP Police had announced a reward of Rs 40,000 on his arrest. In another case, STF team arrested an absconding criminal Mahabir from Rohtak. Police had declared Rs 25,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

PGIMER performs first robotic-assisted drug-coated balloon implant

Chandigarh: Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research’s (PGIMER) Cardiology Department has performed the first robotic-assisted drug-coated balloon implantation procedure on a 59-year-old female diabetic patient. The patient, suffering from acute coronary syndrome, had been admitted to PGIMER in October 2022 with cardiogenic shock. Department head Dr Yash Paul Sharma said: “She was managed in a strategic and innovative method and after stabilization, she underwent coronary angiogram which revealed triple vessel disease.”

Chd MP inaugurates development works in Khuda Alisher, Dhanas villages

Chandigarh: Keeping in view the overall development of villages, Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher on Sunday inaugurated the commencement of work of paver blocks on internal streets and construction of phirni road at Khudda Alisher and Dhanas villages in the presence of Mayor Anup Gupta and MC Commissioner Anindita Mitra. Kher said that developmental works in all the city villages have been started and will be completed by the stipulated time period.

Fortis Mohali launches AI Colon Cancer Screening prog

Mohali: The first-of-its-kind Colon Cancer Screening Programme was launched at Fortis Hospital Mohali. Dr Mohinish Chhabra, Director, Gastroenterology, Fortis Hospital Mohali, explained that unique colon screening programme makes use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to detect polyps or adenomas (pre-cancerous stage). Stating that artificial intelligence is the latest technology and helps detect polyps or adenomas in the pre-cancerous stage, Dr Chhabra said: “Cancer originates in the polyps and it takes about 15 years for the disease to develop completely. AI helps detect precancerous polyps during colonoscopy.”

Workshop on drug-coated balloon technique held

Mohali: A workshop on drug-coated balloon technique for percutaneous coronary intervention was held at Ivy Hospital on Sunday. Conducting the workshop, Dr Bernardo Cortese director of cardiac cath lab and interventional cardiology at Clinical San Carlo, Milano Italy, said that a special drug-coated balloon is emerging as an alternative to the stents in opening narrowed or blocked blood heart vessels in several cases.

Telemedicine clinics to improve health accessibility in rural Haryana

Chandigarh: Hyundai Foundation’s ‘Sparsh Sanjeevani’ telemedicine clinic is making quality health consultation accessible to Haryana’s rural population. This is bringing health services to the doorsteps of villagers and improving health index of rural communities over a period of time. As of now, five telemedicine clinics are operational at Pai in Kaithal, Pilkhani and Korwa Khurd in Ambala, and Rakhi Khas village and Lohari Ragho in Hisar.

Hayer inaugurates AICSC tournament

Mohali: Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer on Sunday inaugurated the All India Civil Services Cricket Tournament by taking to the field himself. As many as 39 teams from different states, UTs, and Regional Sports Boards across the country are participating in the tournament being conducted by the state Sports Department from March 12 to 19. These players are employees of their respective state and central government departments.
