A Maoist camp was busted after a fierce gun battle between Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel and Red rebels in the Tumudibandha area of Kandhamal district on Wednesday.
The exchange of fire took place in the Sindhipangal forest when the security personnel were carrying out a combing operation. While the Maoists fled from the spot, several arms and ammunitions and Maoist articles were seized from the camp, sources said.
It was suspected that some ultras might have been injured in the encounter as blood stains were seen at the encounter site. No security person was injured in the exchange of fire.
The combing operation has been intensified in the entire area in the aftermath of the exchange of fire.
Notably, Director General of Police (DGP) Sunil Bansal during his recent visit to Kandhamal to attend the inauguration of a BSF camp had said that like Koraput, the Maoists would be wiped out from the district.
