Taking a serious note of two brothers mauled to death, allegedly by stray dogs in Vasant Kunj area, Delhi Mayor Dr Shelly Oberoi on Tuesday called an emergency meeting with officials to handle the menace of stray dogs in the national capital and directed them to come up with an action plan within seven days.
She has also called a meeting with non-governmental organization (NGOs) veterinary experts and gaushala owners to discuss the issue on Wednesday. Dr Oberoi has directed the department to submit daily reports on dog and cattle catching efforts of the department.
“Mayor Shelly Oberoi holds emergency meetings with officials to prevent incidents caused by stray dogs. Oberoi called an emergency meeting after the incident of dogs biting children in Vasant Kunj,” Officials said. “The mayor asked the officials to prepare an action plan within a week on the issue of saving Delhiites from stray dogs. On this issue, the Mayor has called a meeting of NGOs related to animals, Gaushala operators and veterinary experts on Wednesday,” they added.
During the meeting, the officials informed the Mayor about efforts which have been made to control the dog population. It was informed that MCD works with various NGOs to control the population of stray dogs.
