Minor K’pada girl saves self from abductors

Friday, 17 March 2023 | KENDRAPADA | RAJESH BEHERA

Thanks to the presence of mind and courageous act of a minor Dalit girl, she managed to save herself from being abducted by three miscreants in a car in the Pattamundai Model police station area on Thursday noon.

Sumini Sethy, a Class-X student of Pattamundai Girls’ High school, who has been appearing in the ongoing matric examination at MN High School of Pattamundai, was kidnapped in a car by the miscreants in broad daylight from the crowded Pattamundai market while she was returning to her house from the examination centre.

The girl came out of the car by breaking its glasses. As she fell down, the abductors injured her by attacking with a blade. She ran to Pokahariapada to save herself from the abductors and fell on the ground unconscious. Locals took her to the Pattamundai Sub-Divisional Hospital.

The girl later lodged an FIR at the Pattamundai police station. Police registered a case and started conducting raids at different hideouts.

The girl stated that the miscreants were whispering among them about demanding ransom money.

Kendrapada SP Madkar Sandeep Sampat praised the girl’s courage.
