A Provincial Armed Constabulary jawan named Pramod Rawat, who was posted in the security of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, allegedly shot himself with his service weapon on Thursday. However, the police claimed that it is yet to be decided whether it is suicide or an accidental death. The deceased allegedly shot himself with a rifle AK47 in the afternoon in a barrack between the CM's residence and Raj Bhawan. Several senior police officers including the inspector general of the Garhwal range, Karan Singh Nagnyal, Dehradun SSP Daleep Singh Kunwar and SP (City) Sarita Dobhal among others reached the spot after getting information about the incident.

The additional director general of police (Administration) Abhinav Kumar who also visited the spot said that besides suicide, it is also possible that the deceased accidentally shot himself when he was probably cleaning his rifle. It was also being suspected by many that the deceased Rawat had asked for leave to attend a religious function at his home and after it did not get approved, he allegedly committed suicide. However, Kumar refuted these allegations and added that the deceased had asked for leave from June 16 which is still several days away and it is very unlikely that he committed suicide due to this reason. He said that the police are talking to his friends, colleagues and family members who also visited him here recently.

The police are also checking his mobile phone to gather important details. He said that he has also received information that the deceased and his family were also well settled financially and it is very unlikely he committed suicide because of financial reasons. He said that the police have sent the body for post mortem examination and police can reach a conclusion only after getting reports of post mortem and forensic tests. SSP Kunwar also said that it appears that the deceased might have accidentally shot himself but police are investigating the matter to find out the truth.
