A police officer was suspended while another officer was served notice for negligence in connection with the arrest of a rape victim’s mother in Ratanpur town in Chhattisgarh, police said on Monday.
Ratanpur Station House Officer Krishnakant Singh was suspended and SDoP Siddharth Baghel was served the notice on Sunday, Bilaspur Additional Superintendent of Police Rajendra Jaiswal said.
Singh will be attached to the Bilaspur Police Lines.
The action was taken based on a report submitted by a team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Rahul Dev to the Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh.
Also, a local court bailed out the mother of the rape victim in the case on Monday.
In March, a 19-year-old woman of Ratanpur had lodged a complaint of rape against a man following which he was arrested and sent to jail. The accused man’s uncle and local BJP leader, Hakeem Mohammad, allegedly pressured the victim and her mother to withdraw the case against his nephew. He reportedly threatened to trap the two women in a false case.
On May 19, one of the relatives of the accused lodged a complaint with the police against the rape survivor’s mother alleging she sexually abused her 10-year-old son.
Acting on it, the police registered against the mother and arrested, triggering angry protests.
