Police to issue 100 per cent traffic challans digitally

Friday, 02 June 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Traffic police of Dehradun is currently issuing about 95 per cent of challans for traffic violations digitally and working to make it 100 per cent in the next few months, said the traffic superintendent of police Akshay Konde. He said that the traffic police personnel are now hardly using challan booklets to impose fines except in the rural areas where cameras are not installed yet. “I have almost stopped issuing the challan book because most challans are being issued via digital mode using integrated cameras.

Over 100 such cameras are installed in Dehradun that assess the data and issue challan accordingly,” said the SP. He said that traffic police also used cameras last month to issue over 200 e-challans to public transport vehicles like auto rickshaws, Vikrams and city buses for traffic violations. He said that the traffic police are also using drones frequently to monitor traffic and proper parking. “We have issued nearly 2,500 challans using drones in the past three months. These drones are mostly operated in the five kilometres radius of the traffic police office in Dehradun that covers several crowded locations where traffic violations occur on a daily basis,” said Konde.
