Punjab Vidhan Sabha to go paperless from next session

Tuesday, 19 September 2023 | PNS | Chandigarh

Punjab Vidhan Sabha is set to embark on a paperless journey starting from its next legislative session, Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan said on Monday and also unveiled plans for a groundbreaking National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) conference-cum-workshop scheduled for September 21. The event will be inaugurated by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Sandhwan revealed that the initiative aims to equip all the members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) with the knowledge and tools necessary for a seamless transition into the digital era. A comprehensive two-day workshop, set for September 21 and 22, will provide MLAs with in-depth insights into the new online system and project.

The Chief Minister will officiate the launch of various digital initiatives, including the National e-Vidhan Application, Punjab Vidhan Sabha Digital Wing, Punjab Vidhan Sabha Website, NeVA Workshop, and NeVA Brochure, on September 21.

Starting with the next legislative session, the entire workings of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha will embrace a hi-tech, paperless approach. MLAs will participate in Legislative Assembly sessions using tablets, contributing to an eco-friendly initiative that aims to reduce paper consumption. The National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) will serve as the primary platform for all information related to Punjab Vidhan Sabha proceedings. Live webcasting of sessions through the National e-Vidhan app will increase public engagement, promoting transparency in the legislative process.

Punjab Government has installed tablets on the tables of all MLAs and all House-related information will be seamlessly exchanged through the National e-Vidhan application, including electronically-stored documents that traditionally sat on the House tables.
