Rahul disqualification rocks Assembly

Saturday, 25 March 2023 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

Congress members stalled the proceedings of the Odisha Assembly on Friday over the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from membership of Parliament.
The House witnessed several adjournments before Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukha adjourning the House till Monday.
The Congress MLAs stormed into the Well of the House and shouted slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They termed the Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification as “murder of democracy”.
Speaking to the media outside the Assembly, Congress Legislature Party Leader Narasingha Mishra said, “Rahul Gandhi is a victim of a pre-planned conspiracy. His disqualification has proved the murder of democracy which we have been telling so long. Without respecting the democratic norms and practices, Rahul has been disqualified in haste. The Congress will move a higher court in this regard and the truth will prevail.”
In another development, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) members led by PCC president Sarat Patnaik held a demonstration at Master Canteen Square in the capital city and burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to protest against the  disqualification of Rahul Gandhi.
MLAs Suresh Kumar Routray and Tara Prasad Bahinipati said that for the first time, a Prime Minister out of fear is trying to suppress the voice of the Opposition and disqualified the Parliament membership of Rahul Gandhi. But the Congress would become more powerful and defeat the anti-democratic Modi Government.
Former PCC president Niranjan Patnaik and other senor leaders were present.
