Rajesh Kachchap faces ED queries on ‘cash scandal’ case

Wednesday, 08 February 2023 | PNS | Ranchi

Suspended Congress MLA from Khijri Rajesh Kachchap was grilled by the Enforcement Directorate’s office in connection with the seizure of Rs 49 lakhs in cash in West Bengal from him and two other party legislators last year.

Three Congress MLAs Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Kachhap, and Naman Bixal Kongadi were arrested in Kolkata on July 30 last year and a sum of 49 lakhs was recovered from them.

On Monday, MLA Irfan Ansari was interrogated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).  However, Ansari claimed that he was targeted by the MLA of his own party. Ansari also said that allegations which have been levelled against him are baseless. He is not involved in any conspiracy to topple the government.

“Why would I topple the government which we formed? I want to tell those who hate me, leave the hatred and do the work of connecting India,” Ansari said. He said that those who leveled such heinous allegations against me saw that the High Court was with me. On the question of fellow MLA Anoop Singh making Irfan Ansari the mastermind, he said that he should get wisdom. But yes, the allegations of toppling the government on him are wrong.

On January 16, Rajesh Kachhap had sought two weeks’ time through his lawyer, after which ED again summoned Rajesh Kachhap and directed him to appear in the ED office today.  On Wednesday, the ED will question another suspended MLA Namn Vixel Kongadi in connection with a cash scandal case.

Meanwhile, sources said that after ED's inquiry from Sahibganj DC, now Sahibganj SP will be questioned. If official sources are to be believed, ED may soon send summons for questioning Sahibganj SP. In the case of 1000 crore illegal mining, ED is preparing to interrogate Sahibganj SP. ED is now preparing to summon Sahibganj's SP Anuranjan Kispotta. Sahibangaj DC Ramniwas Yadav has said in response to several questions of ED that SP, DSP and DMO were cooperating with him in checking illegal mining operations in the State.

However, in the past, ED has interrogated DMO Vibhuti Kumar. The same DSP was summoned. Sahibganj DC Ramniwas did not answer most of the questions satisfactorily in the inquiry on January 23. He sought time to reply. After this, he was questioned in the ED office on Monday. He told Sahibganj SP, DSP and DMO responsible.

On Monday, Sahibganj Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ramniwas Yadav appeared before Central probe agency Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) Zonal Office in Ranchi. The ED had summoned Sahibganj DC to appear before the Central probe agency in connection with the illegal mining case. This is for the second time that Sahibganj DC had appeared before the central probe agency, earlier the ED quizzed him on January 24.
