In a remarkable example of gurut-pupil relationship, two students who had to quit studies due to poverty were given help from concerned teaches, helping them to pass the Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education examinations in first division.

The incident took place in the Tarandul Government School in Kanker district, an official communication said on Sunday.

Santlal, enrolled in Class 12 at a school in Bhanupratappur block, took to dish washing in hotels of Bhanupratappur due to family reasons, skipping school.

One of the teachers who saw him working assured him financial assistance as the board examination was just two months away.

The efforts paid off and the boy cleared the Class 12 exam in Science stream with a score of 66.02 percent.

Kumari Ritu Korram of the same school covered a distance of six kilometers from her village Dhaneli Patelpara to attend school. She was given a free bicycle through the Saraswati Cycle Scheme by the government.

But she had no money to even repair it. A teacher assisted her. She cleared the Class 10 exam with a score of 84.06 per cent, securing the top position in her class.

The Block Education Officer of Bhanupratappur, Sadesingh Komare, and the Principal of the Tarandul Higher Secondary School, Chandrakant Sahu, congratulated the students for their success.

Kanker District Collector Dr. Priyanka Shukla had launched a campaign ‘Hamar Lakshya’ to enhance the quality of education. The other scheme is ‘Anurodh Programme’ to re-engage students who had discontinued their education.
