In a road accident on Bijnor-Muzaffarnagar road in Muzaffarnagar on Saturday night, three people, including a patient, were killed and four others were injured when an ambulance collided with a speeding truck.

Giving this information on Sunday, local police officials claimed that Rishipal of Mohanpur, Bijnor, was having severe pain in his spinal cord so his family called an ambulance to shift him to hospital late Saturday night.

Rishipal’s brother Mamraj, his wife Baby, and a relative, Paramjeet, left home on the ambulance driven by Ponta Gamadi of Subhash Nagar in Muzaffarnagar.

When the ambulance reached near Tissa village on Jolly Marg in Bhopa police station area, a speeding truck coming from the front collided with the ambulance, killing three people and seriously injuring two medical staff.

The local residents reached the spot on hearing the screams of the injured and immediately informed the police about the accident.

After getting information, the police reached the spot and with the help of the local people pulled out the people trapped in the ambulance and shifted them to hospital.

The condition of two of the injured was stated to be critical.

Local police station in-charge Sunil Kasana said that Rishipal (30), his wife Baby (28) and ambulance driver Subhash (26) were killed in the accident and the injured were undergoing treatment.

The truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled after the mishap.

A case was registered in this regard and the bodies were sent for post-mortem. Efforts were being made to nab the truck driver.

Meanwhile, four people, including a man and his son, died in two separate road mishaps in Maharajganj.

In the first accident, a 35-year-old man and his son were killed and another son suffered serious injuries after their motorcycle was run over by a speeding tractor, police said on Sunday.

The accident occurred in the district's Brijmanganj area at 8 pm on Saturday, police said.

Ajay was returning to the village with his sons –five-year-old Krishna and three-year-old Kanhaiya –when a speeding tractor allegedly ran over their motorcycle, the police said.

Ajay and Krishna died on the spot while Kanhaiya suffered serious injuries. He is undergoing treatment in a hospital and his condition is stated to be stable.

Brijmanganj SHO Sanjay Kumar Mishra said the victims’ bodies were sent for post-mortem.

In another accident, two men were killed and one was injured when their car crashed into a road divider and overturned, police said on Sunday.

Kotwali Sadar SHO Ravi Kumar Rai said, “Three people were headed to Pharenda from Maharajganj in their car. The vehicle hit a road divider after losing control and overturned late on Saturday.”

Shivam Verma (25) and 23-year-old Abhinav Prajapati died on the spot while the third occupant, who sustained serious injuries, is undergoing treatment, Rai added.

The victims’ bodies were sent for post-mortem and a case was registered, the police said.
