A teenager from Uttar Pradesh and a young man from Delhi died after drowning in the Yamuna and Ganga rivers in the Dehradun district in two separate incidents on Monday. The officials said that a boy named Asiyan (17) who belonged to UP’s Sitapur area had gone to Dakpatthar’s Katapatthar area along with his friends to take a bath in the Yamuna river. According to his friends, the strong current of the river swept him away when he was bathing in it, said the officials. The local police called the rescue teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to conduct the search operation. The team retrieved the victim’s body after an intensive search operation and handed it over to the police. In another incident, Shivam Singh (24) from Delhi drowned in the Ganga river in Rishikesh near Neem beach while bathing along with friends. The officials said that according to his friends, they decided to bathe in the river after rafting. The leg of the victim slipped and the river swept him away. The police called SDRF who retrieved the body from 15 feet depth in the river with the help of divers. The police will hand over the bodies of both victims after completing the necessary procedure, added officials.
