Electricity regulator UP Electricity Regulatory Commission will commence the public hearing for a hike in power tariff from April.
The hearing will commence from Varanasi on April 10.
UP Power Corporation Limited, along with its five wholly owned subsidiaries, have filed ARR (annual revenue requirement) with the power regulator seeking hike in power tariff ranging from 18 per cent to 23 per cent for the next fiscal 2023-24 commencing from April 1.
The power regulator, during the public hearing, will record the views of the power consumers on the UPPCL seeking hike in power tariff.
The hearing for the ARR filed by the Purvanchal Power Distribution Corporation will begin from Varanasi on April 10. The hearing for Madhyanchal Power Distribution Corporation will be held at Lucknow on April 21. The hearing for Dakshinanchal Power Distribution Corporation and Kanpur Electricity Supply Company will be held at Agra on April 27 and for Paschimanchal Power Distribution Corporation at Noida on April 28.
Meanwhile, Avadesh Verma, president of UP Power Consumer Forum which is opposing the proposal for the hike in power tariff, said the UPPCL should first refund the arrears to the power consumers. He said the proposal for the hike in power tariff filed before the power regulator by the UPCL was unconstitutional. He said before seeking a hike in the power tariff, the UPCL should either return Rs 25,133 crore to the consumers or adjust it in power bills.
