The Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) employees will be on a one-day strike at the Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Dehradun on Tuesday as part of their planned phased protest against the corporation management. The members of the Uttarakhand Roadways Sanyukt Morcha (URSM) said that they will be on a one-day strike at Haldwani bus station and Tanakpur bus station on Thursday and Friday respectively. The union members will march to the secretariat in Dehradun on the morning of October 10 and if the government still takes no action on the demands of the employees, they will go on an indefinite strike from midnight the same day. All major transport unions have come together under URSM against the corporation  management to unanimously present their demands before the government. The URSM mainly consist of four major unions which are Roadways Karamchari Sanyukt Parishad, Uttaranchal Roadways Karmchari Union, Uttarakhand Employees Roadways Union and SC ST Workers Union. Their main demands are the regularisation of hundreds of employees and the purchase of 500 new roadways buses. Besides this, they are also demanding strict action against illegal operations of private buses in cities affecting the business of roadways buses. The employees also want immediate job appointments in UTC for the dependents of the deceased. They are also demanding arrear payment of the seventh pay scale and a raise in dearness allowance to all employees from January 1, 2023 along with the commencement of the house rent allowance. Their demands further include uniforms in winter and summer. The employees have also raised an objection to the hiring of employees via agencies and demanded direct recruitment from UTC besides regularising drivers and conductors. The union members said that they had informed the UTC administration regarding the plan of their protest in advance while making it clear that they will commence indefinite protest from October 10 if the government fails to fulfill their demands.
