An under-trial prisoner (UTP) lodged at the Soro Sub-Jail in Baleswar district on theft charge, fled from the prison on Sunday evening.
The UTP identified as Satyajit Malik (20) of Bideipur under the Basudevpur police station in Bhadrak district had been shifted to the Soro Sub-Jail from the Bhadrak Special Sub-Jail on January 18.
The prisoner was suspected to have escaped from the jail by scaling the boundary wall while dinner was being served to inmates. The jail staffs came to know about the incident at the time of checking the attendance record, following which they informed the Jailer.
After hours of frantic search, the jail authorities lodged a complaint with the Soro police.
Based on the complaint, the Soro police initiated an investigation and are on the lookout for the fugitive prisoner.
