A wild elephant killed a woman in Jashpur district in Chhattisgarh, an officer said on Sunday.
The incident took place near the jungles of Jhikki village in the Bagicha forest range on Saturday night, Jashpur Divisional Forest Officer Jitendra Kumar Upadhyay said.
Phulbaso Bai (55) encountered an elephant which attacked and killed her when she had gone to the forest to collect wood, he said.
The victim’s family was provided an instant relief of Rs 25,000.
More than 200 people have been killed in elephant attacks in the last three years, the Forest Department data say.
