TMC RS MP resigns as party mouthpiece editor

Wednesday, 18 September 2024 | PNS | Kolkata

After Jahar Sircar the TMC Rajya Sabha MP who resigned his post in protest against the alleged police inaction in RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case another senior party leader Sukhendu Shekhar Roy on Tuesday resigned as the editor of Trinamool Congress mouthpiece Jago Bangla.

Roy, also a Rajya Sabha MP tendered his resignation to the "leadership" on Monday night inscribing his letter with "Satyameva Jayate," or Truth must Prevail.

Roy has been vocal against the alleged police inaction in the RG Kar case saying he being a father and a grandfather himself was scared of the incident.

"A time comes when everyone should stand up for the truth … this time has come … because as a normal human being and a father and a grandfather I too am scared after the incident … particularly the way the police have acted," he said.  He even demanded custodial investigation of some top Kolkata Police officials for their alleged complicity in the case.

There was no information regarding whether his resignation had been accepted by the leadership or not.

He wrote on X "My 2 fold demands were for custodial interrogation of 2 heads of RG Kar Hospital and Kolkata Police have now been accepted under pressures from popular movement unleashed by Jr. Doctors and millions of people. Satyameva Jayate. I'm happy like everybody."

Roy had earlier been summoned by Kolkata Police for interrogation --- with Vineet Goyal then as its Commissioner --- after he had demanded his custodial interrogation.
