FIR registered 2 years after woman alleges rape

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in Southwest Delhi’s RK Puram area, two years after a 42-year-old woman was allegedly raped in a five star Hyatt Regency hotel of. The woman has claimed that the accused threatened her of dire consequences with her nude pictures.

A case under section 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at RK Puram police station on October 3. The accused has been identified as Amit Malik who is also in his 40s.

According to the FIR, the victim met the accused, identified as Amit Malik, through Instagram and used to message her frequently on Facebook messenger and met him for the first time on April 21, 2022.

“We started talking frequently after the first meeting. We planned for dinner at Hyatt Regency hotel on April 23, 2022 but upon reaching the hotel he insisted that we check-in in room to know each other more personally,” the victim claimed.

She added that he was carrying a bottle of vodka with him and offered her a drink. “After drinking, I felt badly intoxicated and lost consciousness. After gaining senses, I felt terrible pain in my legs and lower abdomen and found myself without clothes. Amit Malik then started showing me my nude pictures without clothes,” the FIR stated. The victim is a resident of Lajpat Nagar and lives there with her son.

She alleged that the accused has been threatening and harassing her for the past two years “He had also filmed the act of forcing himself upon me. I started crying out of fear but he calmed me down saying that he has recorded the moments purely out of love! Amit Malik told me that he is going through several disputes with his wife and plan to divorce her,” she stated, adding that the accused has been sexually and emotionally abusing her.

The victim stated that since she was not living with her husband, she fell for his assurances. “He kept getting intimate with me on several occasions on the pretext of marrying me. Whenever I resisted, he used to threaten me of dire consequences, of spoiling my son’s future and also by circulating my nude pictures,” she said. She added that she has been living in fear and has been threatened over the last two years.

A senior police officer added that the statement of the complainant was recorded and her medical examination was conducted in Safdarjung Hospital. “From the gist of the statement and MLC, offence under section 376 and 506 IPC is made out,” he stated, adding that an investigation is underway in the case.

Speaking to The Pioneer, an official from Hyatt Regency hotel said that they do not have any information on the case and can’t comment on the same.
